Used Logos
200 logos from the golden era of Danish minimalism.
The logo has been described as a company’s stamp of quality, imbuing the organization and its products with aesthetic value in the consumer’s mind. However, this requires that the consumer is continually exposed to the logo.
Sadly for posterity, packaging, advertising and other means of achieving this goal are designed to be discarded after use. Unlike furniture classics and many other designs and works of art that are still around many years after their production, most Danish company logos were used and then forgotten.
Most of the logos in this book were collected directly from the logo designers themselves or from relatives who provided access to private archives. For many of the logos, this book marks their first publication since they fell out of use decades ago, and many of them were at imminent risk of being lost forever.
A small subset of the logos have had a well-documented existence and remained accessible in books and magazines or online, even after they went out of use. An even smaller group of logos by prominent designers have found their way into public archives. And finally, a small, proud group have remained in use unchanged to this day.
