For a coming exhibition by Thomas Mau and Raffael Bader, at Gallery Enari during Art Paris, we did a poster-series to support the event. We decided to further explore the graphic design from a previous Thomas Mau exhibition, choosing the same strict typographic approach and grid.

Again, we decided to leave out any imagery of the curated artworks whatsoever, following a comment from a previous curator: “Photographs of Thomas Maus paintings doesn’t live up to actual, real paintings.”

Therefore the posters are strictly teasing the primary color scheme of the artworks, which is blue and red.

The basis for the posters is an existing tight typographic grid, but we’ve broken it up with certain text-elements that are sporadically placed, rotated, and angled, in contrast to the text that follows the underlying grid.
