Denmark's Limfjord boasts an abundance of some of Europe's best shellfish worshipped by chefs and gourmets alike. For many years all of these delectable Danish fjord delights have been exported to Southern Europe and sold domestically to a select number of fine-dining restaurants, quality fishmongers, and food markets in Copenhagen.
But for a number of years now shellfish has been making a big splash closer to home. A cluster of local restaurants and brasseries, fishermen, and traders together with a number of large and small events, talks, cooking classes, and other activities celebrate the Limfjord Flat Oysters, Gigas Oysters, mussels, lobsters, crabs, cockles, periwinkles, and shrimps. Now, they are served up at their freshest close to their source, with some tasty results.
Together with the possibility to dive into the region's age-long shellfish provenance and heritage and modern-day knowledge and research into the mental health, climate, and environmental benefits of shellfish, the Limfjord has become the perfect seafood destination.
