Beskrivelse
Light and theatre go hand in hand. As the curtain rises and the lights dimmer, the audiences are expected to be in their seats. That means very swift and efficient navigation of a large group of people who all have individual and very specific destinations.
As the completion of the comprehensive makeover of Malmö City Theatre – brand wise and quite physically – we have designed a wayfinding system that supports the theatre’s visual identity while addressing the diverse needs of theatre-goers. With universal design as our main focus and through the incorporation of clear signage and tactile guidance, we have created an intuitive yet inclusive environment.
The heroes of our story are light and modularity. A series of light boxes constitutes the framework for communication throughout the entire building, automatically attracting attention in the slightly dimmer rooms and passages.
The modular system pairs the light boxes with wooden blocks with a high degree of flexibility in order to ease navigation and express spatial surroundings. Additionally, we have created a sensory overview map that integrates braille both on the map and around the building, along with gender-neutral pictograms that honours Malmö City Theatre’s expressed vision of inclusivity and diversity.
