Beskrivelse
Crafted within Pairi Daeza’s Woman Life Freedom Project, the film “Iran-e Man” transcends traditional cinema, seamlessly blending art and activism. Commissioning twelve Iranian artists worldwide for a scarf collection, the designs serve as poignant metaphors for the recent Iranian revolution ignited by Mahsa Amini’s tragic death in 2022.
The film navigates away from typical media depictions of protests, offering a nuanced exploration of Iranian culture, using symbols and metaphors from traditions and filmmaking.
A symbol-laden tapestry, “Iran-e Man” becomes a bridge between global understanding and local identity, directly addressing Iranians while inviting outsiders into the intricacies of their culture. By showcasing elements like music and public dancing, prohibited by the Islamic regime, the film stands as a potent expression of resistance.
This homage to Iranian film culture acknowledges the historical utilization of symbolic language by Iranian filmmakers to navigate governmental restrictions. The film pays tribute to Iranian directors such as Abbas Kiarostami, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, and Samira Makhbalbaf, among others. Additionally, it serves as an homage to the Soviet visual poem “The Color of Pomegranates,” providing inspiration for the film’s poetic and visual style.
The film becomes a colorful tribute, echoing the vibrant history of Iranian cinema, and serving as a powerful medium to advocate for freedom, echoing the values of its intended audience, the brands values and supporting the Woman Life Freedom Movement.
