Beskrivelse
Comprising seven churches located in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, Folkekirken Vesterbro is the moniker and shared communication platform for the largest parish of the Danish National Church. With a large and diverse congregation, Folkekirken Vesterbro engages in a wide range of functions – from traditional church services to meditation sermons, drag concerts, and debate clubs, as well as social services and shelter for the marginalised.
Prioritising content over form, the visual identity is purposefully unimposing. An exposed structure and objective framework, that bring the content, messages, and tone of each church to the foreground. At the same time, the ascetic design language offers clarity and calmness, in contrast to the visual chaos of the bustling Vesterbro.
Activating a stylistic alternate lowercase t of Helvetica Now, the Christian cross is introduced as a subtle, yet meaningful typographic detail, embedding the symbol into every written message. Across media and platforms, from wordmarks and signage to posters and publications. Rather than being front and center, the cross is omnipresent.
The colour system allows for an infinite range of colours, allowing to set the right look and feel for baptisms, funerals, and everything in between. The visual identity position Folkekirken Vesterbro at the intersection of low and high – simultaneously common and uncommon, basic and distinctive; grounded and elevated.
