Since its inception in 2007, CPH OPEN has become one of the most anticipated yearly international events in skateboarding, attracting the world’s top skateboarders as well as crowds in the thousands from all over the globe. The event, sometimes referred to as “The Woodstock of Skateboarding”, moves around to multiple locations each day and surprises skaters and guests by popping up in skateparks, closing off entire city blocks, as well as skating in unlikely locations such as inside of Copenhagen City Hall. The event features not only world class skateboarding but also music, food and art happenings.
In 2018, CPH OPEN took the show on the road and created happenings throughout Europe over the course of 10 days, starting in Copenhagen and ending up in Berlin. The project was dubbed CPH-BER, playing on the abbreviations of the start and end destinations of Copenhagen and Berlin.
The heart shaped sunglasses have become synonymous with the CPH OPEN vibe and are flaunted by skaters and spectators, in addition to being incorporated in various installations in the events. To generate buzz about the CPH-BER project, we created a poster campaign in Berlin which featured a series of 25 portraits of skateboarders wearing the heart shaped glasses. Big time legends like Tony Hawk hung side by side with local young talents, highlighting the diversity and inclusiveness of the event. The posters were put up consecutively in long rows and the order of the posters were randomly mixed up for each location, creating a new dynamic for each wall to represent the spontaneous vibe of the event.
