Every day, 200,000 travelers navigate Copenhagen’s busiest transport hubs. To make their journeys smoother, DOT – Din Offentlige Transport – has set out to upgrade the station maps guiding passengers through the complex intersections of metro, train, and bus.
Building on our expertise in wayfinding, cartography, and user behaviour, we are redesigning DOT’s station maps with a sharper visual hierarchy and a balance between detail and clarity. Throughout the process, we conducted thorough tests with curated user groups, both on-site and off-site, ensuring the maps are intuitive and user-friendly in real-world conditions.
Our concept focuses on clarity and essential guidance. Instead of showing everything, the maps highlight key routes, facilities, and transfer points, allowing passengers to orient themselves quickly and reduce time spent navigating the station layout. Every detail – from hierarchy to colour and shapes – supports intuitive movement. The new maps will be adaptable across print, digital, and large-scale formats, ensuring consistency and usability for years to come.
By uniting function and aesthetics, we helped create intuitive navigation that strengthens DOT’s presence in the cityscape – and makes public transport more accessible for everyone.
