Beskrivelse
For the exhibition A Journey: The Near Future, Danish photo-based artist Nicolai Howalt presents a captivating exploration of Mars through imagery collected from NASA’s Curiosity and Perseverance rovers. The project delves into the uncharted landscapes of our red neighbor, reflecting on the interplay between the analogue and the digital in contemporary image-making.
To complement Howalt’s panoramic compositions, we developed a triptych poster series inspired by the way the original photographic material was assembled. The design emphasizes the vast, expansive quality of the Martian landscapes, allowing the posters to function as a unified series or as individual pieces.
The black-and-white aesthetic mirrors the tonal qualities of Howalt’s Mars imagery while harmonizing with the raw, industrial interior of the Planetarium, creating a cohesive and immersive visual experience. The result is a tactile representation of distant frontiers, where the vast unknown of space is brought into a minimalist, earthly context.
In an era marked by technological advancement and ecological uncertainty, Mars stands as a symbol of both future possibilities and human resilience. Howalt’s work is not merely about depicting Mars; it invites viewers to contemplate the boundaries between science, art, and our evolving relationship with the cosmos. The visual identity amplifies this narrative, offering an evocative entry point into the exhibition’s themes of exploration and discovery.
